One half of D COY's first sprog intake 252%20Plt085

This was the platoon photo taken the first day of training about the 20th or so of July 1962. 252 did an extra couple of weeks to wait for 253 to catch up and we passed off the square together Dec 23rd. (Just happen to have the invite card still - found it in the old lady's stuff when she passed on) Anyone got the 253 photo?

Reading left to right, top to bottom

'Thomo' Thompson, #, #, 'Dinger' Roy Bell, #, Mick Naylor, 'Panky' Pankhurst, Brian Hooper, Alfie Christian.

[Big] 'Jock' Robertson, Roger Hollingsworth, #, 'Aussie' Blunden, Brian? Eade, Bill Head, Nick O'Brien, Ron North.

#, #, #, Cpl 'Hammy' Hammond, Lt. Jenaid, Cpl Bill Laws, #, [Little] 'Jock' Brown, 'Sparra' Wilson

The hash marks are those that didn't make it. Nick O’Brien suffered a bad leg injury just before Brecon and was back squadded. I believe he went to 2 Para and that he was later commisioned

Some of the names I remember from 253 are I think - Colin Spicer, Sammy Doherty, Dave Jeffries, Dave 'Spud' Taylor, Trevor Humphries? - aaagh! I can see the faces but...............!
A couple of names that joined 252 as back squads due to injury were [Little(?), "gis a ciggy"] 'Spud' Taylor (ex Miner - now he could dig a slit trench) and my old mate 'Dimmo' Malcolm Dimmock. (Yes, sadly, I am aware of his fate)

Now I've been promising my branch travelling mate Tug Wilson that I would put something up on here so here is the first - (God he's off I hear you say!) but let's face it this site is so under used - how about D Coy showing them how to do it - again - (That'l get 'em goin') Remember that saying? "Are you in the Army?" NO, WE'RE IN D COY

My best wishes to all who are still with us I hope you are all as well as can be.

My best regards for now and please - please try to put something on here if you can. (I have very few pics but will add a few more later)

Right then, I'm off to my shed!

Best Regards - 'Sparra' Wilson
