the rescent plane crash at chedi jagan airport guyana reminded me of 3paras tour in 65/66.we were sent out there to patrol the sugar cane fields, which were being saboutaged by communist in an attempt to destroy the economy, also to provide security for the queens visit in early 66 to give the country its independance.the name of the leader of the commies was Chedi Jagan.actualy it was a good tour, and ithink most of the guys enjoyed it.on completion of the tour we assembled at Atkinson field airport to await airlift back to the uk.That airfield is now called chedi jagan airport.how often have we left a country only for it to be taken over by the baddies.javascript:emoticonp('')

Does anyone know what happened to Jock "Freightrain" Fraser who was with 'B' Company on their trip by train back from Tacarma. His was near the rear of the train when he collided with a girder bridge spanning a river. He spun between the bridge and train, fell between the rails and sleepers and as we found out later landed fortunately on the bank of the river. I believe he suffered broken arms and legs. It was some time before word was got to someone of authority and eventually to the driver to reverse the train. Miles from anywhere without proper medical cover it still makes me shudder now to remember this unfortunate accident.

Hi Doug,
I'm Patrick Peters, and served with 6 Platoon at the start of that tour to B.G. I have so many good memories of going there, the company locations, the tab back from Tacarma, my signals cadre at Atkinson Field.
Do you remember it was during that tour we switched from rocket launcher to the new heavy anti tank gun?
In the February of 1966 we presented arms to the Queen gave B.G it's independence and all flew home, good days.
