Home after 44 Years.
I have just returned from a very moving ceremony at Campbell Barracks Swanbourne Westen Australia. "D" Coy pers may remember the incident as we were there at the time. "D" Coy in Haunted House and Australian SAS in Kuching.
Lt K Hudson and Pte R Moncrief were swept away during a river crossing in West Kalimantan while on patrol during the Indonesian Confrontation on 21 March 1966. Remains were recovered from two separate burial sites in Kalimantan in 2009 and were handed back by the Indonesian National Defence Force (TNI) on 12 Apr 2010. The remains were returned to Australia on 13 April 2010.
The funeral service for Pte Moncrief was held in Perth while Lt Hudson was returned to Brisbane for burial with full military honours. Lt Hudson and Pte Moncrief are the last SAS soldiers missing in action to be found and returned home.
Nick.
