Security of the Site
A big well done to the head shed for getting the Forum going!
Would one of the admin please give details of the security of this Forum.
One of the problems other sites have been experiencing, is the problems with Walter Mitties & Wannabees who frequently get outed.
ie, are members vetted to make sure that they are bona-fide.
Is this forum open to anyone?
Who can see what goes on here?
How safe is it?
Thank You!

Taking each point in turn,
A lot of work has gone into this forum, and its intention is to allow members of the 3 para reunion club to chat openly.
Memebres are not vetted, but anyone with Admin privileges can block a user ( at present Bernie and Myself)
The forum is open to anyone
Admin can change the permissions with in the forum to allow only registered users to view threads.
How safe is it -- Without using expensive security protocols not very, this is the internet and there is always some one who will have the means and the inclination to hack away
If any registered user has any concerns about either the running of the fourm, or a registerd user then they can use the message facility and send a PM to either Bernie or myself.
The only info stored is what you put in your profile and anything you post

Ok, that clears that up!
I know who Bernie is & he knows me.
Who is the person behind the name "admin"

OK mate!
Nothing personal, but how do we know that anything we put on here is safe in the hands of someone who is nothing to do with 3 Para?
You are probably a good bloke, but how do we know that you're not a supporter of the IRA or a muslim fundamentalist. Or even a member of our own security services. Do you get the drift?
There are many people & organisations that would love to get someone in to a site like this to glean information for their own purposes & to use against us at a later stage.
I would like more of an answer, than "a friend of Bernie"
I'm sorry if this puts you on the spot, but it is important.

Re: Security of the Site
I am a friend of bernie, thats all i'm going to say.
Was asked to get the forum going, so here it is.
As I said earlier, none of your info is saved except what put in your profile.
If you have any problems with this site then simply do not use it, your choice

Sorry Mate,
That might be good enough for some, but I like to know what I'm dealing with.

Security of the Site
As an addendum Tommy’s and Ray’s last message although we would like everything that we are involved in to be secure that facility is not available to us.
I joined 1 and 2 Para’s forum to find out the best way of preparing ours to get the content and layout etc. This was done without any checks, and I was not refused entry therefore it can be assumed that they are as open as ours.
As I set up and manage this site in my spare time, without the expertise of the administrator, a friend of mine, the site would not be here. I lack the technical ability myself, but would welcome input from those of you who have it.

Thanks for that Bernie.
I know that you are doing a fine job here & don't want to piss on your fireworks.
As you say, you're doing it in your spare time & without that effort, this forum wouldn't be here.
At least I now know that your admin man is called Ray. The point being he could be Tommo, Big Red, Jock6513 & the list goes on of all the Walters, that have managed to bluff their way onto sites like this or even onto rememberance day parades, as in Edinburgh last year. I personally would still like to know more about your admin man.
In summary, everybody using this forum should be aware that nothing is secure & that it is open to bluffers.
As long as you remember that & don't post anything sensitive, all should be ok.

security
I agree wth Tommy 100% there should be a secure thread where 3 para only can post things that should be kept within 3 para without fear of comebacks, some check on membership should be done, I am not getting at you and Ray you are doing a fantastic job.
I am sure if you got in touch with Jock Love on the F O C site he will advise you on a closed thread and membership check you only have to go on arrse site to see problems that can develope by not having checks in place I am sure the reunion club can afford to cover the cost it will not be as dear as you think.

I have created a forum for 3 para members.
This is only available to registered members.

Ray,
I'm not trying to get your back up! I'm trying to clarify the situation here, so that everyone is aware of the limitations on this site.
Every website forum is different in that way.
The point being that you've created a forum for 3 Para members & it's only available to registered members. However, Anyone can register. There's no check at the door! It's totally open for anyone to come in. All they have to do is register. Easy peazy!
The only check is, if somebody is suspiscious, they can then inform Admin (who's a Civvy) ermmmmmmmm yeah right!
I think, If you say to everybody,
This Forum is insecure, please be careful about saying anything sensitive, as it could be used by unscrupulous people at a later date, then there should be no problem.
People have then been warned.
At the moment you are giving a false impression that this forum, because you have to register, is secure.
That isn't so!

Re: Security of the Site
I have never said at any point that this forum is secure.
I am not the only person who has admin rights, bernie does as well.
As to your point about me being a civvie, so are the rest of the users of this forum, unless they are still serving memebrs of the forces.

Ray, I know you didn't say the forum was secure, but the statement above could be easily misunderstood by people new to computing.
As for everybody on here being Civvies unless they are serving...........yes, you're right.
We on the other hand, have been there & done it. Something I do not expect a civvy who has never done it to understand.
As I wouldn't expect you to understand anything concerned with 3 Para.
However, in the best interests of this forum, I think we should let the site run & see how it grows.
I like it!
It's a good idea
Already, there are some good blokes on the membership,
& I hope it does well!

It has taken a while but I think all concerned will find this a much better method than using the guestbook to communicate,as long as the details are not to personell (see Mortar Plt ) things should be OK.

Fcuk me Mick! That was ages ago!
Keep your hair on pal, you'll give yourself a heart attack!
Just getting clarification on the security aspects of the site. Every site is different, some much more secure than others! & there are loads of people that aren't too clever with computers & don't understand the implications.
Not you though........you're an expert!

I don't wish to start WWIII, but your on aboot security and all that, im just wondering, is it all right for a Bootie to come on here if he's looking for an old former Para mate, (I use the word mate loosely as if anyone outside here finds out I was/am mates with a Para I'm done for) can you see my dilema regarding security.??

As far as i know you have a perfect right to ask old son,the question is,would anyone on here admit to being a friend to one of Those "thoroughly nice chaps who like waving white hankies" However rather than being accused of discrimination i will admit to knowing one who was in your Free fall display team for many years.

I would think these days that the walts and wannabes have gone away, but if we are careful, all should be well, there was suspicion about me, until I turned up at the paras 10, and knew half the instructors there, just do no post anything sensitive, or disclose your location, jobs a goodn un.

That would be nice psycho, but highly unlikely.
Clicky, http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/Special:PopularPages
There's lots about Walts in there, but it'll take you a while to get through them all.
On a gayer note, the Mor Pl gets a mention too!

Thanks for the info tommy, I did not realise there were so many of these walts out there, a bit unsettling really, but I felt reading some of the posts that they went too far in some cases, out them, then leave it there, the Mike Golden case just looks like a loser who is a fantasist, and a potential modern day michael ryan.
Having read the walt stuff, it makes me realise that there are indeed more of them around me than I realise, I tend to keep myself to myself, these people make me sick, but everything said on there is quite true, theres hundreds of security guards who are ex sas.
When raising sponsorship for the paras 10, I was asked at work if I had served, I just said I did a bit of cooking, next thing I had to listen to how such and such was saaas, and Mr jones was an officer in the territorial saaas, etc etc, got the money off them though, and smiled to myself. Again at work the other day, a guy found out I was a para, and brought out a guy who said he was 3 para before, he said to me he was 2 para, and started going on about hot air balloons, I wanted the work, (paint job), so I humoured him, nice to know there is a place to complain about these guys, will join that site, and post my findings daily, it is almost a daily thing at the moment.
